What is it?

yAttach! allows you to easily attach files to new messages in the all-new Yahoo! Mail. All the features available in Windows that were once only available to your desktop mail-using friends are now available to all Yahoo! Mail users.

yAttach! is the sister product to gAttach!, which is for GMail.

What can it do?

With yAttach!, you can:

• send emails directly from:
  • Windows Explorer
  • Microsoft Office
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Windows Live Photo Gallery
  • Internet Explorer
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • .. and many more
• automatically attach files from your PC to a new email without manually uploading each file;
• choose to suppress the annoying standard text provided by Windows ("Your attachments are ready to send..");
• handle "mailto" email links in web pages.

Where do I get it?

Right here. The current version is 1.2008.7.7 (released 7 July 2008; see version history). The software is free to download and use, though donations are appreciated.

Are there any limitations?

Not of any note! Due to some historical issues with Microsoft's mechanism for sending emails, you might run into a few problems sending a file attachment whose filename is in a different alphabet to the one you use normally (e.g. your computer uses English but you're sending a Russian attachment), but this won't affect 99.9% of people!

yAttach! does not work with Yahoo! Mail Classic.

What do I need?

You just need a Yahoo! Mail account and a PC running Windows 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista. The software requires something called the .NET Framework 2.0, though you most likely have this installed already. If you don't, you'll be asked to download it.

How does it log into my Yahoo! Mail account?

yAttach! works in cooperation with Internet Explorer:

• If you're already logged into Yahoo! Mail via Internet Explorer, yAttach! won't ask for any login details.
• If you're not logged in via Internet Explorer, yAttach! will show you a mini web browser to ask for your login details. yAttach! does not monitor or record your login details; it merely checks to see if you're already logged in and takes you to Yahoo! if you're not.

If you have any concerns, it is recommended that you log in to Yahoo! Mail via Internet Explorer before attaching files. Make sure you choose the "Keep me signed in" option. yAttach! will then never ask for your details.
